Halton Region’s H1N1 immunization clinics closed temporarily

Due to the shortage of H1N1 vaccine, Halton Region is temporarily closing the H1N1 immunization clinics.Clinics will resume for people who are considered high priority by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care when more vaccine is received.“We have staff ready and willing to immunize now,” said Gary Carr, Halton Regional Chair. “At present we are just waiting on more vaccine from the Federal Government.”

“We are expecting another smaller allotment of vaccine early this week,” said Dr. Bob Nosal, Halton’s Medical Officer of Health. “That vaccine would be available for family physicians and for Health Department clinics for priority groups identified by the Ministry.”

By end of day yesterday, Halton had immunized nearly 42,000 people. The region was given 73,000 H1N1 vaccine doses.Halton will open a clinic tomorrow for pregnant women who want the unadjuvanted vaccine. The site at the Halton Regional Centre will offer the shot from 4 to 8 p.m.The region is advising people to check its website, halton.ca, for clinic updates. Residents can also call 311 for information.
